Tucson, Arizona (July 1st, 2009) - USA
Raceway will celebrate America's Independence this Friday
and Saturday night. Two days of fast action and fireworks
are set to make for a weekend race fans will not want to
miss.
The opening round of action will take place Friday night
as the top southwest modified drivers will compete for
prestige and honor as they set out to earn bragging rights
in the 1st Annual Southwest Border Wars. The UMP West
Modifieds presented by Barnett Harley Davidson, will race
two separate shows at two different tracks each paying
$1000 to win and $100 to start.
RC Whitwell will have to fend off the crew from the East
as the Stars of Southern New Mexico roll into town for the
showdown. Whitwell, Brian Clark and Robert Adams will
take on the duo of Royal Jones and Bumper Jones while the
Barnett crew, led by Christie Georges and Sherman Barnett,
look to take home the money. Johnny and Stormy Scott will
also be in the mix making for a big star shootout.
Friday's card will be full of action as the UMP West
Modifieds presented by Barnett Harley Davidson will be
joined by Factory Stocks and Hornets. General admission
tickets will go on sale at 5pm for only $12, racing will
begin promptly at 7pm.
The Wing Warriors of the American Sprint Car Series
return to action, Saturday Night, in Round Three of the
Discount Tire Co. ASCS Challenge Series, a slate of eight
designated events crossing over from the wingless Canyon
Region to the winged Southwest Region.
Charles Davis, Jr., who topped this past Saturday
night's Canyon card at USA, also aced the opening round of
the Discount Tire Co. ASCS Challenge at Hollywood Hills
Speedway. The other round was rained out.
With the initial handful of ASCS Southwest events in the
books, Peoria teammates Ben Gregg and John Gaston hold
down the top two spots on the point charts with Gregg
holding a 14-point advantage.
Gaston is actually tied for second with defending series
champion Rick Ziehl of Las Cruces, NM, with Yuma's Mike
Martin and Joshua Hodges of Tijeras, NM. The 14-year-old
Hodges recently became the youngest feature winner in ASCS
history by snaring a Rocky Mountain Region win at
Wyoming's Sweetwater Speedway on June 13.
While he leads the Canyon Region championship chase,
Charles Davis, Jr., stands sixth in Southwest points with
the wing. Ronnie Clark, fifth in the wingless ranks, is
seventh in Southwest standings in front of Cody Cambensy
and Ron Kratz. John Van Horn and Jessica Van Dyke enter
Saturday night's action tied for tenth in points.
Rickey Hood has topped the last two ASCS Southwest events
at USA Raceway.
The AMRA Midgets make their 2009 USA Raceway debut with
the return of six time Arizona Sprint Car Champion, Ricky
"The Racer" Johnson. Johnson, who also won an Arizona
Midget Championship and an Arizona UMP Modified
Championship, will be at the wheel of Pat and Erika Fly's
Proflyer Midget.
RJ Johnson, Arizona Midget point leader, will join his
father in Midget action as he looks to extend his points
lead. Johnson, who recently took the runner up spot in
the ASCS Sprint Show last Saturday night, will have the
advantage of the extra laps around the fast dirt oval of
USA Raceway
The dynamic duo of Wing Sprint Cars and Midgets will
headline the show along with Super Stocks and AZ Modified
Midgets. General admission tickets will go on sale at 5pm
for only $12, racing will begin promptly at 7pm.
Season Passes are on sale for only $199 and $149 for
Seniors, Students and Military. Suite Access Passes which
allow race fans the opportunity to enjoy the races from
USA Raceway's VIP Suite are also on sale for only $349.
