A Call to Duty

Kevin Montgomery Tucson, Arizona (May 13th, 2010) - After nearly one month with no action it would seem that our brave warriors would become somewhat complacent and lulled into a hypnotic state, but it is likely that the well tuned fighting machines and their fearless pilots will be prepared for this weekends battle at USA Raceway.  It is these brave soldiers and there race cars that will be on hand for the viewing pleasure of all race fans and our invited guests of the United States Armed Forces.

Close to 100 squadrons are set to invade Tucson this Saturday night and each will have only one thing in mind, victory.  The fight will be fierce and the action unbearable but at the end of the day there will be only one winner.

"I feel the need....the need for speed"

The Charge

"Chargin" Charles Davis, who has won the past two ASCS Canyon Region events, will return to boot camp tomorrow afternoon to take some laps at an open practice scheduled for Friday night.  While this is not unusual for Davis to attend practice, this time he is rumored to be testing a new top secret fighter that he will fly into battle on Saturday night.

It is also rumored that "The Shermanator" will bring his Sherman Tank, which looks more like a sleek F-117 Night Hawk, a day early to make a few test flights prior to Saturdays mission.  Sherman, a 4-Time Arizona Sprint Car Champion with more than 100 victories to his credit, has finished in the top 5 in all three ASCS Canyon Region starts in 2010 but has failed to find victory lane.

Stiff Competition

The title may be a little redundant but the fact remains that the ASCS Non Wing Sprint Cars are tough to compete with.  Very much like the Barnett Harley Davidson Modifieds, the Canyon Region Sprint Cars have shown up in full force with the toughest field of non wing sprint cars in the South West.  With a 28 car average and 17 drivers competing in all three events this year, it is arguably the most competitive wingless group of sprint cars in the West.

Stiff Competition - Take II....The SCRA Factory Stocks

Yet another redundant topic or maybe just a trend!  A plentiful field of SCRA Factory Stocks, guided by a battle tested leader, will also return to USA Raceway after a month off.  Henderson, who leads off the track, will follow point's leader Ty Weidner on the track as he takes point and attempts to come home with the hardware in round 4 of the SCRA Factory Stock conflict.

Weidner, who has failed to win a battle, leads the point's war just ahead of a 3 way fight that is separated by 1 point for each position thus earning the title of "Stiff Competition".

The Modified Midgets

Josh Shipley will make his way to the newly designed small track at USA Raceway with a bulk of the 600cc fighters.  While some will defect to the North, it is hopeful some unity is in sight but either way the action on the small track will be big.  The small but mighty machines will show just how quick they can be.

The X Factor

The X-Modifieds may be one the fastest growing division's in Arizona with more than 30 drivers seeing action this year.  With growing car counts that have rocketed into the mid twenties it is likely we will see the heading of "Stiff Competition" in the near future.

With or without the heading this class falls into the category already.

"Bagger"

Major Jason "Bagger" Jensen lived up to his name in the 1st Annual Military outing by winning the Commanders vs. Chiefs hornet spectacular and spectacular it was as "Bagger" took his Tucson Airport Courtyard by Marriott FA-18 Hornet to the limits and landed himself in victory circle.  A surprise last minute entry placed "Bagger" at the rear of the field but the packed house stood on their feet as he sliced through the field making one desperate pass on the final corner of the final lap to take the victory.

"Bagger" will be back in action this Saturday night "Locked and Loaded" as he looks for a repeat.

"When are you going to stop those jockey's doing a fly-by on my tower at over 400 knots? I want somebody's butt, I want it now, I've had it!"
