Canyon Raceway May 30th ASCA Sprint Car Results
Anyone who didn’t turn out for the fun this Saturday Surely Missed out. Sixteen sprint Cars turned out for This Saturday Nights action. The track was much better that we have seen it in the last couple of shows. The Sprint feature was run earlier in the evening which also made for some good wheel to wheel sprint car action for the fans and competitors. Added to the list of drivers for this week was Jeremy Sherman who came out to drive the Leland Michaels 77 entry as team mate to RJ Johnson. Both Jeremy and RJ would later scratch from the competition with mechanical problems. Steve Sussex would also drop out early with a mechanical failure. The track didn’t get slick until about half way through the feature, but it never took rubber. Turn two was a challenge as the lead was swapped a couple times when cars would go off the top.
Shon Deskins took an early lead until he blew the top on lap nine Colgrove close behind, hit the brakes and gave the lead to Tom Ogle. On lap Twelve Ogle went over the top and Colegrove took the lead with Nathan high and Josh Pelkey in pursuit. That’s the way it would end. Thanks to Bubzilla for helping our recollection of the night’s events.
Our hats off to Canyon
Raceway for doing a good job on the race track. Many tires will live to race
another night. The show was over much earlier this week also. I think all racing
was over right around 11:00 or a little after. A couple other definite
improvements were noted. One great improvement was the organization of the push
trucks, and how quickly they were able to push off the cars. The staging area
was run very efficiently, and the official running it did a great job. The
track stayed good all night, and the officiating was much more refined. Staging
went smoothly, and with the loudspeakers working as well as they were, everyone
was early to staging. Even the pits were not dusty. The road was a definite plus
also. The grading of the road on the way in was a great improvement, making much
easier access to the facility. Doug and Pete really stepped up the program and
Wow, what a difference! This week was a lot of fun. Keep tweaking it guys! We
will be back! If any have developed reservations as to whether or not to come
out, Racers or fans, I urge you to give Canyon another try. This week was a
testimonial of Canyon’s commitment to accommodate the needs of the racing
community.
